A pet travel certificate, also called a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) or health certificate, is a required document for traveling with your dog or cat. It confirms that your pet is healthy, up-to-date on pet vaccines, and cleared to travel by a licensed veterinarian.
Depending on where you’re going, travel certificates must meet specific airline, state, and international regulations, some of which are time-sensitive or complex. That’s where we come in.
Let us know where and when you’re traveling. We’ll help map out the necessary steps.
Our vet will assess your pet’s health and begin the certificate process.
We’ll walk you through any additional needs, including endorsements or country-specific forms.
Enjoy your trip!
Traveling abroad? Requirements vary dramatically by country — and often include:
International travel certificates take advance planning. We recommend reaching out at least 30–60 days before your departure — some countries require even more time.
You may also need a health certificate from your destination country in order to return with your pet to the USA.
Even within the U.S., pet travel can require documentation. Many airlines need a certificate issued by a licensed vet within 10 days of travel. Some states may also have rules about pet vaccines or parasite prevention.
We’ll make sure you’re covered, with the right forms and timing.
"... They treated my three dogs with calm and patience, and it was clear they were ready for the visit before I even arrived. The van was very clean, and the team was very professional, courteous, and the conversation was good. It felt as if they had known my dogs forever, making the visit feel very comfortable and welcoming...."

"My dog Rufus is 14 years old he usually doesn’t like the vet, but Emilia was amazing! I’ve never seen him so happy, and he’s a grumpy old dog. This is the best vet service! If you love your dog you’d sneak them here. So amazing, can’t recommend enough. 😍"

"My puppy Cheri needed to get a last min Bordetella pet vaccination so she could go to doggy daycare the next day. I called Tandem and they were easily able to schedule me for a same day appointment! "This was my first time bringing our pup to the vet. We didn’t have great experience in the past with vets to the point that I would have anxiety bringing them but the vet at Tandem was great. She was informative and professional. She went over everything we could do during the visit but respected doing just the basics for now (normal pet vaccines and rabies). Penny (my dog) also seemed to like them and did really well at the appointment. I will definitely be using them again and have already talked to friends about them. 😊"

"... The visit was great, my cat was treated well, and it was efficient. The staff was kind and helpful. I received a detailed email covering my cat's services later that day. Much better experience than at a previous vet where I had to call multiple times to get any info at all about my pet...."

"Tandem’s services were great!!! The doctor and vet technician were awesome. They worked well with my cat. They were very clear in explaining the services they offer and listened to what I wanted and didn’t want. I didn’t feel pressured to pay for services that I didn’t want. They explained what my cat needs and will eventually need without trying to pressure me (he has gum disease and will need his teeth looked at). The prices for the services were very reasonable. I have limited income and have been searching for a vet to take my baby to. The price for Tandem’s services didn’t break my wallet. I intend on getting more services from them!"

For international travel, yes- most countries require an ISO-compliant microchip. For domestic travel, it may not be required but it is always recommended.
Some countries (like Australia, Japan, and the UK) have mandatory quarantine periods. Others allow entry without quarantine if all requirements are met.
